The Royal Welsh or (R WELSH) is one of the new large infantry regiments of the British Army since its restruction back in 2006. As suggested by its name, it draws its recruits from Wales, mainly and is one of the three regiments that trace their liniage from Wales. The planned formation of the Royal Welsh regiment was announced in December 2004.
The flag of the Royal Welsh Regiment features the cap badge, centred on a striped background in the regimental colours of the Royal Welsh. The cap badge and its older versions have been in use for centuries, and despite its changes over the years, the royal welsh crest has always featured the three plumes, and the motto Ich Dien (which is German for: "I serve")- This text is still visible on the current cap badge and flag, along with the regiment title "The Royal Welsh". The badge has also historically used "Royal Welch" instead of the current title. The current version of the cap badge which features on The Royal Welsh flag, was designed and in use from 2009.
