Adopted on October 28th 1948, 5 months after the State of Israel was established. Featuring a plain white background with two horizontal blue stripes at the top and bottom of the flag, both with a small gap above and below to seperate from the edges, featuring the symbolic jewish Star of David in the centre of the flag. Some say that the blue colour symbolises tekhelet; this dye was very important in Jewish and non-Jewish cultures around this time, and was used by upper class and royalty to dye their clothing, sheets, curtains to show they are of more importance.
