Adopted on September 30th 1966, the Botswana flag is one of the few African flags that doesn't use the colours of the Pan-Africanist movement. Instead it uses two blue horizontal bars at the top and bottom, roughly sized at 2/5 of the flag each, and in the centre is a black horizontal stripe with a white edge. The blue is said to represent water in the country, more specifically the rain water it badly needs for crops; whilst the black and white bar is said to represent the racial diversity of the people who live peacefully in the nation.
