The Flag of Jamaica was adopted in 1962 on August 6th, the same day it received its independence from the West Indies Federation. The flag features a saltire that touches each corner of the flag, forming 4 triangles on each side of the flag. The colours of the Jamaican national flag are pan-african with the top and bottom triangle being green, the other two black and the saltire gold. The gold saltire ressembles the scottish and irish roots of most of the population by replicating the Saint Andrews and Saint Patricks cross but sticking to the pan-african colour scheme to ressemble the black population.
