Previously known as Upper Volta, the Burkina Faso Flag now represents the new name and nation ever since the name was changed on 4th August, 1984. The flag is coloured in the popular Pan-African colours of the Ethiopian flag: red on the top half and green on the bottom half, featuring a golden five pointed star in the centre. The colours, including the star, all have their own meaning: red symbolises the revolution; green represents agriculture and natural riches and the golden star is shown to be the guiding light of the revolution.
